These contradictions exist and may worsen

The success shining and undeniable China economic challenge some of the foundations of the classical western economy Adam Smith to Joseph Schumpeter links between democracy and capitalism appeared as inseparable. No democracy without capitalism and not capitalism without democracy.

Would the Chinese inspired Singapore model demonstrate that capitalism can overcome its contradictions, thrive in the long term without democracy, even if democracy itself cannot hatch without capitalism In other words, China is saving capitalism and not only the capitalists, as argued with pride and perhaps humour, voluntary or not, some Chinese Communist leaders

In fact the Chinese and Asian challenge is for the Western world, a double opportunity, that should allow it to "morality capitalism" and reinvent its democratic practices.

To understand the new strength of the "East wind", the West must first ask what happened to the "West wind" and for doing recall the famous warning Alexandre Yakovlev, one of the main advisors of Mikhail Gorbachev, on the eve of the collapse of the USSR. "We will make you a terrible thing, said, we will disappear as your alliance cement.". The disappearance of the ideological threat represented by the Socialist empire did not only "lulled" the West. It has helped to lose its bearings in the Western capitalist model. "We had won, everything was possible, the sky was the only limit to growth." Some unbounded greed has not only corrupted the capitalist dream, shattered global markets and triggered disasters of exceptional magnitude in the recent history of capitalism.

The climate of silence which accompanied the experiments for the less risky of a financial industry which launched on the market of the products that she did had not tested - can one imagine the pharmaceutical or automotive industry do so s ' due to the meeting between a victory mood, a culture of greed and guilty "passivity" control bodies.

In the aftermath of a crisis, which is perhaps not complete, the Chinese have beautiful game tell us: "How can you still give us lessons in financial capitalism, while without us, you would have without doubt at the bottom of the hole" We cannot simply reassure us good balance with the emphasis on the structural contradictions of the emerging powers Asian and wait for the collapse of these "paper tigers" on themselves. These contradictions exist and may worsen. The Chinese regime gives disturbing signs of hardening, encouraged perhaps by the same success.

For us, we cannot ourselves, said that the problem of the world stems from the fact that the Chinese dream to eat like us, while our nightmare would be to work like them.

Facing the appetite for success embodied by the "East wind", "West wind" was need to regenerate the "North wind". "Northern lights" describe not only the talent of the Scandinavian painters at the end of the 19th and early 20th century. The term refers to a political, economic and social model where power is modest and honest, where women play a prominent role in society, where wealth gaps remain decent and do not social despair and where, finally, immigrants necessary to the functioning and the development of the economy are generally treated with decency.

China today as the United States of yesterday is becoming a mirror which reflects the strength and weaknesses of our societies. We are too few to become anything other than a "niche of excellence". The requirement of quality is not only one of these French craftsmen who specialize in furniture lacquer, export now in China luxury production.

The "East wind" must be before any perceived by us as a positive challenge brings back us to our fundamental; morality of capitalism and better functioning of our democratic systems.
